We can offer custom-made UV-Vis-NIR and/or SWIR light sources for a variety of sensor, fiber optic, and spectroscopy applications. These phosphor-converted LED (pcLED) sources are built using advanced solid-state lighting (SSL) technologies involving UV/Blue LEDs and phosphors. They can be provided with or without fiber optic coupling adapters such as SMA905 or FC-PC.

LED-based fiber optic light sources provide stable optical power illumination using current-controlled electronics and active cooling of heat-sink-mounted LEDs. The built-in active cooling system is only necessary for high power versions of the light source since it helps achieve stable output and protect the LED and phosphor from overheating when operated under high power conditions. Stable high power operation can also be achieved, in some cases, using the phosphor in glass approach in LED manufacturing. Unlike traditional high voltage short-arc AC sources that employ vacuum bulbs, SSL LED sources are compact, DC-powered, and can even run from a USB charging port. The pcLED light-emiting UV-Vis-NIR element can also be supplied as a standalone unit for those who want to build sources using their own electronics and cooling systems.

The LED sources can be built with customized light output to match any specific sensor or spectroscopy application. For example, a broad-band spectral output range can be designed for general optical absorbance, reflectance, or light transmission measuring system used in the optical analysis of materials. Alternatively, a pcLED source can be instead built for narrow-band diffuse reflectance spectroscopy for specific detection in the near-infrared range, for example. On the other hand, a UVC, UVB, UVA, or a near-UV sources are generally ideal for fluorescence or photometrics measurements of photoluminescent or phosphorescent materials.

Compared to traditional UV/Vis and NIR sources, LED-based SSL light sources consume significantly less power and generate less heat. They can also be operated in pulsed mode and built with a much smaller footprint to enable integration into a wide range of optical systems.
