Evidence continues to emerge from the peer-reviewed medical community regarding the benefits of PBM infrared therapy. Various studies have linked certain parts of the light spectrum to a wide range of healthy physiological responses. Recent research has demonstrated that deep tissue healing, circadian synchronization, even  a person’s mood and alertness have spectral sensitivities that are different from those of the visual system. PBM therapy devices generally operate in the red and near-infrared (NIR) parts of the spectrum.

Since it operates in the NIR spectral range, PBM therapy is a not considered a thermal therapy. It can be more accurately compared to photosynthesis by the leaves and cells of a plant. In humans, deep cells and muscle tissues have developed the capability to use the solar infrared parts of the spectrum for various chemical and biological reactions. Such a capability was made possible due to what is called the near-infrared (NIR) window of the human body. The NIR window defines the range of infrared wavelengths where IR light has its maximum depth of penetration in tissue. Since short-wavelength visible light cannot penetrate far into the skin, deep tissues and muscles had to rely on the deep-penetrating infrared light for energy.

Using advanced phosphor technology, we have developed unique NIR-enhanced LED lamps. These solid-state lighting devices are capable of generating optical energy across the NIR window of the human body while minimizing absorption by water molecules. Unlike commercial infrared therapy lamps, our proprietary phosphor-converted LED lamps can generate long wavelengths capable of penetrating and healing beyond the deepest layers of the skin and into the muscle layer.
